He is 36 years old, he was a Urban Guard in Barcelona and his name hit the press in 2017 after the death of his partner, Pedro Rodriguezwhom he murdered along with his then lover, Albert Lopez. The story was so gruesome that even Netflix jumped on the bandwagon and created an eight-episode miniseries with Ursula Corbero In the role of Pear Rose (The body on fire) that remained in the Most Viewed ranking for several weeks. The platform did not know that the story would take such an unexpected and surprising turn as the one that took place this Tuesday: López has confessed to the crime after six years in prison.
The reason is none other than to obtain prison benefits since Albert López, in the Quatre Camins prison in La Roca del Vallès, is now within the framework of individual reintegration treatment, according to El Periódico. His confession is a stab at his ex, Rosa Peral. Both denied the accusations in court and blamed each other, earning sentences of 20 years for him and 25 for her. However, López’s new strategy could put Peral in a bind if she decides to collaborate with justice and reveal new details of the gruesome crime.
The events took place in 2017. At that time, Rosa Peral was divorced from Rubén Carbo, also a colleague of the aforementioned police force. She lived with her two daughters and her partner, Pedro Rodríguez. She had been unfaithful to her ex-husband with Albert López in 2012. After years apart, they secretly resumed their relationship. The outcome of this intricate soap opera was the worst of all: Rosa and Albert drugged Pedro, put him in a trunk and burned the car. Later, they provided false evidence that suggested that the murderer had been Rubén, but he had an indisputable alibi. And since reality always surpasses fiction, during the investigation several scandals involving the Urban Police came to light: Peral had at the time denounced her sub-inspector for disseminating images in 2008 in which she was seen having sexual relations with him, while that Rodríguez had been suspended from employment and pay for attacking a motorist.
In the trial of the case, which began in 2020, Peral accused López of having killed her boyfriend out of jealousy. He pointed out that his lover had murdered him after an attack and said that she had asked him for help in getting rid of her body. Finally, the jury considered that the two defendants “came to the conclusion that the victim, for various reasons, was hindering their relationship and situation,” so they thought of a plan to end her life.
The former lovers, in prison since 2018, have developed very different lives behind bars. While López has made friends with whom she organizes soccer games and has written a book, Peral has been transferred from prison up to five times for being involved in different altercations. According to some of her colleagues, she has maintained romantic relationships with both men and women, and many define her as a “possessive and manipulative” person.
The launch of The body on fire It outraged the protagonist of the story, who tried to stop the broadcast through legal means without success. From prison, she charged against the platform and even with the protagonist, Úrsula Corberó: “They are beating me. Tell me when I am judged to be toxic.” Of course, she had no problem receiving journalists to record Rosa Peral’s ribbonssome meetings that became a documentary with his version of the story and that earned him a reprimand from Penitentiary Institutions for using visits from friends and family to talk to the media.
