MADRID, 21 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Romanian Ovidiu Hategan will be in charge of refereeing this Wednesday the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 between Atlético de Madrid and Manchester United at the Wanda Metropolitano (9:00 p.m.), UEFA confirmed on Monday.
The 41-year-old referee has previously directed four matches with the participation of the Red and Whites, with a balance of three wins and one draw. In the first time they met, Diego Pablo Simeone’s men beat Rubin Kazan in the Europa League (0-1).
Later, he was present in the ‘Champions’ victories against Benfica (1-2) in the 2015-16 season and against Salzburg (3-2) in the 2021-22 campaign, as well as in the draw against Porto (0 -0) this same course.
Hategan will be assisted on the wings by his compatriots Mircea Mihail Grigoriu and Sebastian Gheorghe, and the Italian Massimiliano Irrati will be the referee in charge of the VAR.
For his part, the Slovenian Slavko Vincic will be in charge of imparting justice in the other duel on Wednesday, in which Benfica and Ajax will play at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon (9:00 p.m.).
