The retractable roof is composed of eleven “wings” of 330 tons each. Each wing is divided into seven structures 15 meters long and three high. Roland Garros explains that each one has a pair of wheels for its deployment and that its movement is synchronized by computer with that of the rest. In total, that roof covers a surface of one hectare, added the French competition.
The roof of the Philippe-Chatrier is included in an ambitious project to expand and improve the facilities that has had to fight with official permits and with the opposition of the neighbors, but with which Roland Garros reappear in this year's edition with all its splendor.
