The Slovenian cyclist Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) was able to celebrate his first Giro d’Italia this Sunday after the last stage in Rome, the fourth ‘big’ of his record that he left sentenced on Saturday, while the British Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan ) gave himself an emotional sprint.
In the hard time trial of Lussari, the three-time champion of La Vuelta a España had to suffer a lot on Saturday to confirm his favouritism. The Slovenian shaved 26 seconds off Geraint Thomas (INEOS Grenadiers) in the lead despite suffering a chain failure on the ascent.
Thus, the tour of Rome for the 21st and last stage of the Italian round over 126 kilometers was full of enjoyment and celebration in the Jumbo-Visma. Roglic, 33, added the Giro to his triplet in La Vuelta to continue waging war among the new generations. The Slovenian also has a second place in the 2020 Tour and had another third place in the 2019 Giro.
Another more veteran like Cavendish showed his character and quality for the last time in the Giro. The Briton, who announced this week that he will end his career with 2023, left one more exhibition by winning the sprint in the Italian capital.
