Rodri maintains City’s streak and frustrates Arsenal

MADRID, 1 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Manchester City began this Saturday in 2022 as it ended the previous year thanks to a goal by Rodri in the 93rd minute, which gave the victory to the Premier’s leader against Arsenal that had their rival on the ropes (1-2), but he was frustrated with some controversy.

Pep Guardiola’s men have eleven victories in a row and a cushion that does not stop growing, 11 and 12 points over Chelsea and Liverpool, although with one and two more games played. Arsenal put up a tremendous performance to Emirates in the first half, with the 1-0 lead on top of Saka in the half hour.

Mikel Arteta’s team, absent on the bench due to coronavirus, boarded it against the best in the league. The ‘gunner’ recovery, in play and classification, was palpable with a fast and confident football but with a minimum income.

In the second half, a penalty to Bernardo Silva began to change the script. The referee reviewed it in the VAR and ended up punishing a grab from Xhaka although the Portuguese seemed to be looking at the ground. Mahrez converted the maximum penalty, where the local Gabriel saw a yellow for stepping on the launch point.

Next, Nathan Ake took a ball under the sticks in a bad assignment from Laporte, but the scare for City came the second yellow for Gabriel. With one less, Arsenal was more at the mercy of the leadership of the leader, who ended up taking the three points in the discount thanks to Rodri’s goal, after an attempt by Laporte.

Guardiola’s men continue their iron dominance in the Premier in the intensive Christmas season, in the absence of the end of matchday 21, while Arsenal, who came from four consecutive victories, will maintain fourth place although they may lose margin to the high persecution of West Ham, Manchester United and Tottenham.
