Robredo, Martínez and Vilella pass; Kuhn, Alcaraz and García López say goodbye

The preliminary phase of Roland Garros has not started well for the Spanish tennis players. If this Sunday we knew that Bernabé Zapata could not compete after his coach's presumed positive for coronavirus, this Monday several Spanish tennis players have not been able to overcome the first round of the Paris tournament.

One of them is Carlos Alcaraz. The Murcian will not be able to play his first final phase at Roland Garros after losing to Australian Aleksandar Vukic 4-6, 7-6 (5) and 6-3 in two hours and 17 minutes weighed down by the 37 unforced errors he committed during the game.

Alcaraz managed to advance in the match after taking advantage of the third set ball he had to break Vukic's serve in this first set.

However, in the second set and with 2-4 in favor after a break in the sixth game, Alcaraz could not take advantage of two match balls in the ninth game that triggered a break for the Australian, which led the set to a tie-break. In the tiebreaker Alcaraz had up to two minibreaks in favor, but four consecutive points from Vukic allowed him to take the set and force the third set.

In the third and final set Alcaraz started with a break that he would end up losing in the next game. In the sixth the Murcian gave up his service and he could no longer react to the Australian, who stood firm with his serve to seal his pass to the second round of the qualifying round.

Nor did he make it to the second round Nicola Kühn, who fell in straight sets against British Liam Broady 6-4, 7-6 (4). Nor Guillermo García López, who lost 0-6, 7-5 and 6-3 to Belgian Coppejans after wasting three match points at 5-4 in the second set.

Yes the Girona will be in the second round of the qualifying round Tommy Robredo, who clearly beat Belgian Arthur De Greef 6-4 and 6-2. Robredo will now face the Taiwanese Jason Jung, who beat the Japanese Yosuke Watanuki 6-2 and 6-0.

The Valencian Pedro Martínez will also be in the second round of the preliminary phase, who suffered to beat German Daniel Masur in three sets by 7-5, 3-6 and 6-3. Martínez will now face the Dutch Robin Haase, who beat the Portuguese Joao Domingues 6-1, 7-5. Mario Vilella will accompany you, who clearly beat Russian Donskoy, ninth seed of the qualifying round, 6-3, 7-5. The man from Elche will face Colombian Daniel Elahi Galán.

Andrés Gómez's son advances in the previous

Emilio Gómez, son of the legendary Ecuadorian player Andrés Gómez who won Roland Garros in 1990, won the first match of the qualifying phase of the tournament by 6-3 and 6-2 Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild.

Gomez, 28, easily beat his rival in a game that lasted 1 hour and 19 minutes, and in which he dominated the majority of statistical records, such as 83% of points won with the first service and another 83% of points won in the network.

The Ecuadorian arrived at Roland Garros in position 154 of the classification of the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP), while his Brazilian rival was at 106.

Four Spanish women in the women's preview

This Monday, the draw for the Roland Garros women's qualifier was drawn, which starts this Tuesday and has four Spanish players. Lara Arruabarrena (28 years old and 151st in the world) will face Serbian Ivana Jorovic (23rd and 200th) in the first round; Cristian Bucsa (22nd and 154th) will take on the Slovak Rebecca Sramkova (23rd and 205th); Eva Guerrero (21 and 227th) will meet the French Jessica Ponchet (23 and 237th) and Nuria Parrizas (29th and 225th), with the French Tessah Andrianjahostimo (21st and 262nd).
