Dutch Robin Van Persie, former Manchester United player and Arsenal, among others, has been appointed new Feyenoord coach after terminating his contract with Heerenveen, and replaces Danish Brian Priske, dismissed at the beginning of the month.
The former 41 -year -old player, who won the Premier League title with the ‘Red Devils’ in 2013, will be linked to the Dutch club until 2027. Thus, it leaves the Heerenveen ninth of Eredivisie, after having won seven of the 23 games who has directed.
Van Persie began his career as a footballer at the Feyenoord, before signing for Arsenal in 2004 and, eight years later, walked in Old Trafford. After that, he signed for Fenerbahçe, and returned to Feyenoord in 2018, retiring a year later.
“Everyone knows how special my link with Feyenoord is,” said Van Persie. “I am greatly excited, along with a strong template, with working with the group of players in 1908 -the training field of the club -and then, in De Kuip -the stadium -and supported by the ‘Legion’ -the fans-,, Play games and achieve successes together, “he added.
The Feyenoord is third of the eredivisie, 11 points from the leader, the Ajax of Amsterdam. The team will face Inter Milan in the round of 16 of the Champions League, after eliminating AC Milan in the ‘Playoff’ access to the round of 16.
