Roberto Bautista extends his jinx in Indian Wells

MADRID, 11 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Roberto Bautista yielded (7-6(5), 6-2) to the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori this Friday in his debut at the Indian Wells tournament, the first Masters 1,000 of the season, extending his jinx at the Californian event.

Bautista missed the first set in the ‘tie-break’ and accused the blow in the second, where Ruusuvuori was accurate with his ‘break’ balls and safer with his serve to advance to the third round. The man from Castellón reached the round of 16 at Indian Wells in 2014, but the rest, 10 editions, are disastrous.

In their second match between the two, the Finn took revenge for the defeat at the 2021 US Open, with a good staging that gave him a ‘break’ advantage in the third game. Bautista kept his cool and returned the break in the tenth, but in sudden death the Spaniard saw the set slip away for good.

Forced to come back, Bautista failed again with his serve, in the fourth game and then did not take advantage of the ‘break’ ball he had. Without a net, the man from Castellón gave up the game to the rest, extending a complicated stretch of 2023 since he left Australia.
