Roger Federer continues to work on the recovery phase after the operation he underwent on his knee to continue playing tennis for as long as possible at the age of 40 (He will turn 41 next August). However, Federer does not want to make a false step and, for this reason, could postpone his return to the circuit.
Speaking to the German media outlet Tages Anzeiger Severin Luthi, one of Federer’s coaches, gave an update on Federer’s condition, and stated that the Swiss could hit the ball again this week. “Federer is still in the recovery phase. We are not only using therapeutic measures such as the application of ultrasound or ice. He can always do more, he is working. Not just the knee or leg muscles, he is also strengthening his whole body. The main thing for him is to come back little by little.”
Despite this, Luthi remains cautious about Federer’s recovery and does not dare to set a date for the Swiss to return to competition, who could even miss Wimbledon, his great goal this season. “Right now I don’t see Federer playing at Wimbledon. I’m not saying it’s impossible for him to play, but I can’t imagine it at the moment.”
