The basketball player Ricky Rubio, the skier Claudia Galicia, the athlete Adiaratou Iglesias or the men’s and women’s basketball teams are some of the athletes distinguished by the 2019 National Sports Awards, as reported on Wednesday by the Higher Sports Council ( CSD).

Ricky Rubio and Claudia Galicia have been awarded the Rey Felipe and Reina Letizia Awards, which crown the athletes in the male and female category who have distinguished themselves the most that year. The point guard was one of the leaders of the Spanish basketball team that was proclaimed world champion in China in 2019, where he was chosen ‘MVP’, while the mountain skier won the World Cup in her specialty and three medals (a gold and two silver) at the World Championships.

For its part, the Barón Güell Cup, which rewards the teams or selections that have stood out the most, has been awarded to the men’s and women’s basketball teams for their World Cup gold and bronze, respectively.

In addition, the visually impaired athlete Adiaratou Iglesias will receive the King Juan Carlos Award for her revelation status, and another athlete, Carmen Ramos, the Queen Sofía Award for her gesture with María Vicente to help her beat the Spanish heptathlon record. The swimmer Alba Vázquez has been awarded the Princess Leonor Award for the best Under-18 athlete. The Ibero-American Community Trophy has gone to Ferrao, a Brazilian futsal player for FC Barcelona.

The Rafa Nadal Academy has distinguished the Joaquín Blume Trophy for its educational work and former basketball players Emiliano Rodríguez and Lolo Sainz with the Francisco Fernández Ochoa National Award in recognition of their career.

Finally, the list of winners is completed by RTVE (Infanta Sofía Award), the Higher Military Sports Council (Stadium Cup), the Azuqueca de Henares City Council (Higher Sports Council Award), the White Paper on Sports for People with Disabilities in Spain (National Award for Arts and Sciences Applied to Sport): .

Rio, Alfonso Arroyo, Juan Ignacio Gallardo, Javier Guillén, Ruth Beitia, Mercedes Coghen and Beatriz Álvarez Mesa, and Alejandro Merino as secretary.
