Ricardo Gareca: “We could not neutralize Chile”

The technical director of the Peruvian team, Ricardo Gareca, referred this Friday to the defeat against Chile by 2-0 in Santiago: “They made a good first half and we couldn't neutralize it.”

Asked about his tactical approach, the Argentine coach said that “the idea was to put pressure like we did in Paraguay at the time, the team in its first two presentations had scored four goals and the problem was not to get there.”

“Tactically it was difficult for the team to settle down, the idea was to get the ball back but it cost a lot, so we tried to react,” he added.

Questioned by the late entry of forward Gianluca Lapadula, which generated a lot of expectation at the media level considering the absence of Paolo Guerrero, Gareca emphasized the importance of the player's adaptation.

“Lapadula does not know anyone here now. It was important to give him a little time to adapt and support Raúl Ruidía, who has been doing a good job for us,” said the coach.

Peru adds a point in the standings and maintains a complex situation facing the match against Argentina on November 17 in Lima.

“It is not the expected start, being in our local condition it is important to add in the next game so as not to stray too far,” he said.

“We are used to pressure, to be the coach of the Peruvian team is to live with pressure, to play in the Peruvian lesson is to play with pressure. The most important thing of all is to recover the football level, from there everything can improve”, concluded.
