resigns from his position at BeDisruptive

June 4 was the most painful day in the life of Begoña Villacís: her younger brother was murdered after being shot several times in broad daylight in Madrid. This Friday, a new setback was added to the life of the former politician: the resignation from her position in a technology company.

It hasn’t even been a year since Villacís signed up for BeDisruptive, an entity specialising in cybersecurity. It was on 6 September when it was revealed that the former spokesperson for Ciudadanos had become the new director of institutional relations for the aforementioned company. Just ten months after joining, Begoña has resigned from her position. Now, the entity is reportedly negotiating the severance pay figures for the former politician, which will not be an easy task, as it is on the verge of bankruptcy. What’s more, it cannot pay its employees’ salaries and is immersed in an unprecedented financial crisis.

Villacís began her political career in 2015 as a Ciudadanos candidate to lead the project in the Community of Madrid. However, before dedicating herself to this, she worked at Bank of Tokyo, Mitsubishi and Legálitas. Although, during her time as a politician, her peak was when in 2019 the Popular Party closed a pact with her party to enter the City Council of the capital. However, after the fall of Ciudadanos in the previous general elections, Villacís made the leap to the technology sector with her signing for BeDisruptive.

The death of Borja Villacís

“Every time someone asked me how I dealt with adversity, I calmly replied that life had not touched me yet. Until last Tuesday, life finally touched me, it went through me. Five days and it is still just as unreal,” wrote Begoña a few days after the family tragedy. Her brother Borja died at the age of 41 after being shot several times in the head and chest in broad daylight. The alleged murderers, who fled in their car after the shooting, were arrested and belong to a clan based in Bargas (Toledo), linked to drug trafficking.

The police considered the possibility that the murder was caused by a score settling with the attackers’ organisation. It should be remembered that Borja was linked to the radical group Real Madrid Ultras Sur since his university days. He recently attended the funeral of a member of the gang. Twenty years ago he was arrested accused of brutally attacking a young man. Both he and other arrested people were sentenced to six months in prison. And now, in 2024, he was accused in a case of drug trafficking and large-scale money laundering.
