Reportedly, Tennessee has “expressed interest” in a crucial Alabama transfer player.

Earlier this week, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Kadyn Proctor made his entry into the NCAA transfer portal, promptly establishing himself as one of the most coveted transfer prospects.

Proctor, a former five-star recruit, made his debut as a true freshman for Alabama last season, accumulating 811 snaps in support of a squad that came close to advancing to the College Football Playoff championship contest.

He is the type of player that could be utilized by any program in the nation. Proctor improves every offensive squad he joins immediately, irrespective of the existing roster composition.

The Tennessee Vols, as reported by Pete Nakos of On3, are among the programs that have “expressed interest” in Pender this week. “Sources claim that Tennessee and Florida State showed interest, among plenty of different suitors,” Nakos reported.

Despite Tennessee and Florida State’s interest, Nakos has secured Proctor for Iowa. It is logical that Proctor, a native of Des Moines, Iowa, would transfer to a program that would enable him to play in his hometown.

However, major programs will continue to attempt to sign the future NFL offensive lineman until Proctor transfers. Heard would be joining John Campbell as among Tennessee’s primary offensive tackles the following fall if the Vols were to acquire him.

In the interim, it is anticipated that LSU transfer offensive lineman Zalance Heard, who also appeared extensively as a true freshman last season and was a former five-star recruit, will commit to Tennessee.

Last season, Downs topped the Crimson Tide in total tackles with 107, forty more than Deontae Lawson, who finished in second place.

Downs was an offensive menace with 3.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He was named first-team All-SEC and SEC Freshman of the Year.

At this time, the former five-star recruit is en route to Columbus, where Ohio State has recruited a disproportionate amount of returning stars, including Kansas State quarterback Howard as well as Ole Miss running back Quinton Judkins.

Although Downs has a total of three years remaining on his eligibility, he is already a significant NFL Draft candidate.

The 49-year-old head football coach at Alabama, Kalen DeBoer, has been in full swing in his first week on the job.

Stifling the defection tide that the program has experienced since Saban’s retirement may be the most crucial factor, however.

Since assuming leadership of the Alabama Crimson Tide on January 12, DeBoer, who was hired to replace Nick Saban, has been noticeably occupied.

The former head coach at Washington has a multitude of priorities on his schedule, including staff augmentation and recruiting feverishly.

Alabama has lost ten players through the transfer portal since Saban’s retirement on January 10. Among those to have left are Isaiah Bond, a sophomore wide receiver, freshman Caleb Downs, and coming five-star QB Julian Sayin.

DeBoer is intent on preserving his roster with 20 days remaining in the 30-day window to Crimson Tide players to access the website (as permitted by NCAA regulations).

It is a difficult task, but such is life in 2024 college football. DeBoer, who assumed leadership at Washington in November 2021 and encountered a comparable circumstance, is enthusiastically accepting the challenge.
