Report: Justin Herbert is expected to undergo finger surgery Tuesday

Report: Justin Herbert is scheduled to have surgery on his fingers. Today is Tuesday

ESPN’s Adam Schefter says that Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has surgery on Tuesday to fix his broken right index finger.

Earlier in the day, coach Brandon Staley said that Herbert had planned to see two hand experts on Monday.

The Chargers will find out after Herbert’s surgery if he has any chance of coming back this season. However, since the team is currently 12th within the AFC playoff picture, Herbert has no reason to come back.

“We need to keep our whole attention on his future,” Staley said. “Yes, that and his right hand are the most important things in the world.”

And his plans for the future. He is 25 years old and has a great future ahead of him. Like I said, that will be at the center of every choice we make.

Herbert hurt his finger when Broncos defensive lineman Zach Allen hit him on a fourth-down pass that wasn’t caught with 3:11 left in the second quarter.

It was Easton Stick’s second regular-season game, but he hadn’t previously started one. He took over for Herbert in Sunday’s game.

The Los Angeles Chargers’ (5-8) NFL season has been a grind, and things got even worse on Sunday. That’s why quarterback Justin Herbert had to leave the game against the Broncos of Denver because he broke his index finger in his throwing hand. The game was close in the AFC wild card race.

The Chargers told Herbert he couldn’t play again once they got to the home locker room at halfway. Los Angeles then lost 24–7 and fell far out of the running for the AFC wild card.

ESPN said on Monday that Herbert is extremely likely to have surgery to fix his broken right index finger. He might be able to play again this season, but it will depend on how the procedure goes.

ESPN said earlier that Herbert probably wouldn’t play on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 15 toward the Las Vegas Raiders. They said he would see Dr. Steven Shin to find out how bad the injury is and how long he might be out.

According to NFL Media, Herbert will work with two-hand specialists. Staley, the head coach, said that “any plan moving ahead will be determined once the Chargers gather everything the information in specialists.” Staley wouldn’t say anything about Herbert’s situation in Week 15.

As it stands, the Chargers are now seven games behind six teams in the AFC wild card standings. Herbert might not play again this season. The Broncos were ahead 7-0 when he left in the late second quarter.

Nine out of seventeen passes he attempted were picked off, giving him a total of 96 yards. Easton Stick, a longtime backup quarterback who the Chargers picked in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, took over for Herbert to start his second NFL game.

He told The Athletic on Monday, “All of our attention must be on his future.” “There’s no doubt that his right hand as well as his long-term future are more important than that.”

He is 25 years old. He has a very, very bright future ahead of him. That is what will be thought about in every choice.”

Stick had only completed one pass in his career, a four-yarder against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7 of the 2020 season, before Sunday.

Cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian of the Broncos almost stripped him at the Chargers’ 17-yard line, which would have given Denver a score.

The corner picked up the loose ball and ran it back for a score. The call was changed to an incomplete pass, though, after the video showed that Stick’s elbow was moving forward.

NFL quarterback Justin Herbert is out of action Thursday night against the Raiders of Vegas because his right index finger is broken, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

A source told Schefter that Herbert is extremely likely to have surgery on Tuesday to fix his broken finger. After the surgery, we will know if Herbert has any chance to come back this season.

Early Monday, Chargers coach Brandon Staley said that Herbert would see two hand experts and that the team would decide what to do about Herbert’s status for Thursday after getting information from those specialists.

“We need to keep our whole attention on his future,” Staley said. “Yes, that and his right hand are the most important things in the world.” And his plans for the future.

He is 25 years old and has a great future ahead of him. Like I said, that will be at the center of every choice we make.
