Rennes-Tottenham permanently suspended

The Rennes-Tottenham of the Conference League, scheduled for last Thursday and suspended due to the accumulation of positives in the English, will not finally be played. The meeting has been definitively canceled by UEFA due to the lack of dates to reschedule it, which could lead to the definitive elimination of the Conte competition.

UEFA, after speaking with both entities, has decided not to set a date for the new match. “In accordance with Annex J of the UEFA Europa Conference League regulations, UEFA, in cooperation with the two clubs, tried to find a viable solution to reschedule the match, in order to ensure that the group stage can be completed”, he pointed.

“Unfortunately, despite all efforts, no solution could be found that could satisfy both clubs. As a consequence, the match can no longer be played and the matter will therefore be referred to UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body for a decision in accordance with Annex J of the aforementioned competition regulations. ” .

As reported by ‘RMC Sport’, and strictly adhering to the UEFA regulations approved after the pandemic (if a team does not have 13 players available or is responsible for the non-dispute of the match), Rennes would have won the match 3-0, so Tottenham would be eliminated of the Conference League by being three points from the Vitesse and without the possibility of reaching them.

Tottenham announced last Wednesday that they could not play the game against Rennes due to an accumulation of positives that prevented them from traveling to France. Minutes later, the French team responded in another statement, claiming that the decision was unilateral and that it had neither the approval of UEFA nor that of the French club. In addition, the “Rouge et Noir” blamed all responsibility on Tottenham, adding that the English had not communicated the number of positive players nor had there been any reliable proof of a supposed measure of the English government that did not exist. UEFA’s decision will be announced in the next few hours, although the most likely scenario is Rennes’s 3-0 victory.
