“Reguilón, the fuel that Tottenham needed”

Sergio Reguilón has taken little time to win over his new hobby. Ten days, specifically, the time elapsed between the official status of his signing and his debut with the elastic Spur. The Spanish side occupied the left lane of Mourinho's defense in Tottenham's victory over Chelsea on penalties on Tuesday. A victory that was worth a pass to the next round of the Carabao Cup. And it was a debut that had lights, but also shadows. The first goal of the match came after a delivery failure of a Reguilón who, thrown to recover the ball, stopped braking after the cut of Azpilicueta. This left a frank center to Chelsea that Werner would be responsible for finishing. However, made up for it with the tying goal assist, by Erik Lamela.

The jokes about the first of the plays have happened. “Legend has it that Reguilón continues to slide”jokes a fan on Twitter. However, the meeting of the former Madrid player left much more. The Athletic Titles a detailed analysis of his performance as follows: “Sergio Reguilón is the fuel that Tottenham needed”. Charlie Eccleshare, the signer, stands out above all its inexhaustible battery, something that the Sevilla fans know well after their passage from promise to reality last season.

Joao Sacramente, José Mourinho's assistant, applauded one of his first actions, a successful entry on Fikayo Tomori which showed that Ben Davies has a problem. The comparison with the Welshman was also obvious, despite having a very small sample. While Davies is an accomplished winger, “a magnificent servant”, as Eccleshare describes him. While that of Collado Villalba is, and was in his debut, all momentum.

Favorable approach

The scheme proposed by Mourinho, a 3-5-2 with Reguilón and Aurier as lanes, put the field downhill for our protagonist. In a team like Tottenham, where the presumably starting wingers will be Gareth Bale and Heung-Min Son, with a clear tendency to seek the rival goal instead of the bottom line, the role of the lane seems fundamental. There, 'Regui' stands out above Davies. In the same way that Matt Doherty, also arrived in the summer and accustomed to that type of scheme at Nuno's Wolverhampton, will do the same in the opposite band.

The final race, once Mason Mount missed the decisive penalty, to celebrate the victory of his team, in which Tottenham's '3' ran more than anyone else shows the degree of involvement with his new team. That image, accompanied by others in which Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris are seen hugging, were the ones chosen by the side for his post-game celebration tweet. His “see you next round! (See you in the next round!)” Closed a debut in which there was everything.
