Record of coaches in the First Iberdrola: Pry, Arroyo …

María Pry, Natalia Arroyo, Jenny Benítez and Iraia Iturregi. Four coaches add the First Iberdrola to their benches. A record figure that was achieved thanks to the appointment of the last of them in Athletic, which for the first time has a woman directing one of its first teams, in this case the women's. The former player, second footballer with the most matches in the history of the Bilbao team, and until now coach of the rojiblanco subsidiary took the reins after the dismissal of Ángel Villacampa.

With his 'signing' the women's League reaches the highest quota of female representation on benches. The previous figure that was closest in First Iberdrola was three. A number that was repeated several times. One of them was at the beginning of the previous season, with María Pry in charge of Levante, Irene Ferreras, of Valencia, and Jessica Rodríguez, of Rayo Vallecano. The latter did not make its debut and the second of them was relieved mid-term by Carol Miranda, who later left the team before the arrival of José Bargués.

María Pry became the only coach in Primera last year

The names that were almost repeated with respect to the 2018-19 season, in which three female faces were also registered on the First benches. Were María Pry, who in this case was coaching Betis, Irene Ferreras, who was at Rayo Vallecano, and Carol Miranda, who made history as the first coach at Valencia.

However, Last season we had only María Pry as a female representative among the coaches. The latter changed this season with the arrival of Natalia Arroyo placeholder image to Real Sociedad at the start of the season. A little later, Antonio Toledo resigned at Sporting de Huelva giving way to Jenny Benitez. And, just starting 2021, it was the turn of Iraia Iturregi.

Thus, the Primera Iberdrola is at a historic moment, with up to four women on its benches. An unprecedented fact that denotes the great growth of this category in Spain. In addition to these names, it should be noted that of trainers such as Montse Tomé (second coach in the Absolute and first in the selection of promises), Toña Is, in the Pachuca of Mexico, or Mila Martinez, that directs to Suzuka in Japan, among many others.
