Rebeka Masárová undresses in the first round of Monastir

MADRID, 11 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis player Rebeka Masárová was defeated early this morning by 4-6, 7-6(4) and 6-3 by Turkish player Zeynep Sonmez in the first round of the Monastir (Tunisia) WTA 250 tournament, which is being played on hard courts, and thus bids farewell to the competition.

Masarová started the match with a 30-40 lead and, although she did not take advantage of it, she sent a warning to her rival. Not in vain, the Basel-born player broke in the third game (2-1), but did not consolidate it and Sonmez took the lead again on the scoreboard (2-3). After coming close to another break in the seventh game, Masarová did manage to do so in the ninth (5-4) and immediately after that she won the first set on serve.

In the second set, after both defended their first serves, the breaks, three on each side, condemned the set to a tie-break. In the sudden death, Sonmez proved more reliable and, on her second opportunity, closed the set in her favour.

In the final set, Masarová found herself 3-1 down after losing her first two serves – and breaking one of her opponent’s – and was unable to come back, giving up on the Ottoman player’s third match point.
