Real Sociedad does not fail in its appointment with the Cup either

Robert Navarro’s solitary goal allows Imanol Alguacil’s team to add their eighth consecutive victory

MADRID, 17 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Sociedad sealed their pass to the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey on Tuesday after beating Mallorca (1-0) at the Reale Arena, after an even match that was decided thanks to Robert Navarro’s solitary goal at the beginning of The first half.

The team led by Imanol Alguacil did not fail in the opening match of the round of 16 of the KO tournament. The ‘txuri-urdines’ continued their state of grace by adding their eighth consecutive victory among all competitions. Thus, in just five minutes the locals already commanded the scoreboard with Robert Navarro’s goal.

The top cup scorer, with four goals so far in the competition, took advantage of a filtered ball from Zubimendi from the edge to cross the ball and beat Greif. Good minutes from Real Sociedad who dominated a poor Mallorca at will who couldn’t leave their own field during the entire first half.

The locals were able to extend their income after half an hour, but the offside prevented Oyarzabal, who returned to the starting eleven, from adding his second goal after returning from a long injury, after the one achieved in the last LaLiga game in the victory in the Basque derby against Athletic Club (3-1).

Already in the second half, Javier Aguirre’s men came out with the lesson learned and with a greater defensive solidity that at times canceled out the local fluidity. Thus, the Balearic Islands began to reach the goal defended by Remiro with some danger, they even scared the body with a great opportunity that, canceled for offside, ended up crashing into the post.

With chances for one team and the other, the game at times acquired an alternation in control of the ball that those from Mallorca did not finish making their own. In the end, the ‘txuri-urdines’ knew how to shoot ex officio to put the match to sleep and stop the momentum of a Balearic team that had a hard time lowering their arms. Although they did not stop their efforts, ‘Vasco’ Aguirre’s men were not able to convert in the final minutes, to the benefit of a Real that knew how to defend itself well.
