Real Madrid’s strategy ensures great signings

For several years, Real Madrid marked a date in red on the calendar: the summer of 2022. The 2022-23 is the season in which the new Bernabéu will be released, when Mbappé is within reach and also when several heavyweights with chips end their link with the white club. This is the case of Isco, Marcelo and Bale, with a contract until June 2022. The first two earn around eight million net per course, while the Welshman is at 15. Those gross salaries represent more than 60 for Madrid million euros per campaign. A saving that you can use to launch yourself for the new incorporations with which you want to give a boost to the workforce.

Madrid has had several markets in which austerity has prevailed. He has made important sales (Varane, Odegaard …) and let Sergio Ramos go free (the savings from his token were used to pay for Alaba’s). The objective of all these movements was to arrive next summer with cash in hand to tackle large operations and with salary space to get closer to the salaries that the most powerful teams in European football (PSG, City, United …) are paying.

Isco, Marcelo and Bale are the three safe cases, because they end their contract and Madrid has no intention of renewing them, but in the club’s strategy there are also other players who have the exit door open. The cases of Hazard and Mariano stand out. The Belgian earns the same as Bale (15 million net per season) and the forward is at five million net. Between the two, the gross savings would be another 40 million, plus what was achieved in the form of a transfer. It would mean having even more leeway to go to market with a powerful economic muscle.

Renovations

In addition to the new additions, Madrid also need a salary margin to face some renewals. The main one is that of Vinicius, who is currently one of the lowest earning players in the squad and whose salary is to be adapted to his new role in the squad, since he has become indisputable. Another case to be treated is that of Modric, which ends in 2022 and wants to extend another year to retire in white after playing the World Cup in Qatar. Also Benzema (ends in 2023) must deal with its expansion over the next year. In the same situation as the Frenchman is Asensio, whom Madrid intends to extend the contract so that he continues to wear white.
