Real Madrid wants to deal a blow to LaLiga in Palma
Ancelotti’s men seek to increase the income over Sevilla against a Mallorca that needs to move away from relegation
MADRID, 13 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Real Madrid hopes to take advantage this Monday (9:00 p.m./Movistar LaLiga) of the euphoria caused by their comeback against Paris Saint-Germain to extend their income at the helm of LaLiga Santander at the Visit Mallorca Stadium, where RCD Mallorca needs to break its losing streak to get away from the relegation zone.
Last Wednesday, the Santiago Bernabéu experienced another of its historic European nights in a game in which not even Kylian Mbappé’s blow before the break made them lose faith; a ‘hat-trick’ by Karim Benzema unleashed the madness among the white parish and put them on track for the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Before meeting their next continental rival, Carlo Ancelotti’s men will have to focus their eyes on LaLiga, where they are presented with a golden opportunity to get closer to the title. The stumble of Sevilla, second classified (56), in Vallecas (1-1) allows the Madrid team (63) to increase the distance to ten points if they win in Palma.
In addition, a victory would reinforce an already high morale ahead of next weekend’s Clásico in Chamartín, in which they hope to maintain the defensive strength that has led them to concede just one goal -against Real Sociedad (4-1 )- in their last five league games, compared to the nine goals they have scored in that period.
To do this, the Italian coach, who has an empty infirmary, will make changes to his practically immovable eleven; Both full-back Ferland Mendy and midfielder Casemiro will return, absent against PSG due to suspension, although both are ready for the match against Barça, as is Éder Militao.
In midfield, Camavinga and Fede Valverde could come in as a refresher for Luka Modric or Toni Kroos, who ended Wednesday’s game played, and Benzema could have the Brazilians Rodrygo Goes and Vinícius as attacking partners.
Opposite, Mallorca urgently needs a victory that puts out its crisis of results and moves it away from the bottom of the classification. Currently, Luis García Plaza’s men manage 26 units, two more than the relegation zone, but the sensations in the team are very negative.
And it is that the vermilion team, the second team that concedes the most goals in the category (45), has lost in its last four league games against Real Betis (2-1), Valencia (0-1), Real Sociedad (0- 2) and Celta de Vigo (4-3), the latter even more dramatic after leveling the match in the 87th minute and losing a point with Iago Aspas’ goal in stoppage time.
Thus, he cannot afford any more setbacks and hopes to run into a leader confident by European ecstasy to try to get something positive out of it. The goalkeeper Manolo Reina, sent off on the bench against the Galicians, will not be looking for this company, nor will the injured Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta and Dominik Greif.
