Real Madrid smiles again with suffering

MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Madrid returned to the path of victory this Tuesday in the Regular Phase of the Euroleague 2022-2023 after beating German Bayern Munich with a lot of work 64-68, who fought for victory until the last breath.

The ten-time European champion had to sweat his ninth success in the top continental competition and forget the last setback at home against AS Monaco after a closely contested match, especially in a second half where the success on both sides disappeared (25 -26). There, the Madrid team handled themselves better, although a final complication that gave them a good scare.

Despite the good start to the match that the Real Madrid team had at the Audi Dome, they could not control an opponent who survived thanks to his great success from the line of three. William-Goss and Tavares were the weapons in attack for Chus Mateo’s men, especially the Cape Verdean who with his fourth basket kept his team ahead (9-13).

However, already at that time, Bayern were refining their foreign wrist, led by an Othello Hunter, surprising in this facet. The German team added three by three and that allowed them to take command as soon as the visitors went down in attack.

At the end of the first ten minutes the scoreline was very even (22-21) and Bayern continued with the same ‘medicine’ to open the first gap in their favour. Led by Hunter’s third triple and a huge dunk despite the presence of Tavares, Andrea Trinchieri’s men threatened to escape (34-27).

Real Madrid, with too many losses and without the best version of Musa, did not lose their nerve and was able to find a devastating reply, helped by the drop in local effectiveness. Boosted by three-pointers from Hezonja and Llull, they signed a 2-15 run to return to command, although Bayern held on at half-time (39-42).

The script changed after passing through the changing rooms and the baskets began to be worth their weight in gold. Chus Mateo’s team started better and at least was able to score from the free throw line to open the gap again (39-47), but once again, the triple gave life to their rival. Hunter and Walden pushed hard, but Hezonja’s reply kept his team ahead heading into the final ten minutes (50-54).

Once again it seemed that Real Madrid would break the clash, but they lacked continuity in attack. A technique that cost Poirier the elimination caused the locals to take the lead, for a short time because Llull returned control from the triple (57-59).

From there, the defenses tightened to bring the duel to an even end. Yabusele gave a lot of oxygen, but plus another triple from the Mahón point guard. With 58-66, the game seemed controlled for Mateo’s men, but an unsportsmanlike action against Abalde and a technique for not letting Musa take out gave Bayern one more bullet, which then ran out of triples.
