Real Madrid sees UEFA’s reimbursement for fans for the 2022 Champions League final as “insufficient”

MADRID, 9 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Madrid has considered this Thursday “insufficient” the special plan of UEFA for the reimbursement of tickets for fans of Liverpool and Real Madrid who attended the final of the Champions League 2021-2022, on May 28 of the year past, after the altercations and the difficulties in the accesses of the Stade France, in Paris (France), according to a statement.

“Unfortunately, our club considers UEFA’s proposal insufficient, officially communicated last Tuesday and which consists exclusively of the reimbursement of the price of the tickets, which is also conditioned by the fulfillment of a series of requirements, among which is included demonstrate the time of access to the stadium”, criticized the Madrid entity.

UEFA announced this Tuesday that it will reimburse the money for the tickets for the 2022 Champions League final, played at the Stade de France on May 28, to fans who had difficulties accessing the stadium due to the incidents that occurred. before the match between Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Thus, refunds will be available to fans with tickets for gates A, B, C, X, Y and Z, in which “the most difficult circumstances” were reported, according to UEFA. In addition, all supporters who, according to the access control data, did not enter the stadium before 9:00 p.m., the time of kick-off, or who could not enter the stadium in any way, will be entitled to a refund. Finally, UEFA will offer refunds to all fans who purchased accessibility tickets together with those of their companions.

Given this, Real Madrid noted in its statement that this solution is “not up to the seriousness of the facts, the scope of the damage caused and UEFA’s responsibility for all of this.” “For this reason, Real Madrid has decided not to collaborate in the limited compensation procedure promoted by UEFA, which we ask to rectify and assume its full responsibility,” he added.

The entity recalled that on February 13 a report prepared by a team of experts appointed by UEFA was published that made the organization “responsible” for “the arbitrary choice of the venue and the organization of the final itself.” “Whose serious deficiencies endangered the safety and physical integrity of the fans who attended the meeting,” he lamented.

“The content of the report highlights that all the fans who attended the final were victims of its deficient organization and saw their safety and physical integrity compromised. Therefore, (…) the reality is that all the fans suffered a unacceptable delay in the start of the match, in addition to the unacceptable insecurity both in accessing the stadium and in its eviction, along with serious additional damage such as robberies, assaults and threats,” the white statement said.

Finally, and although it will not collaborate in this reimbursement plan, Real Madrid will enable “in the next few days” a telematic assistance service so that “all Real Madrid members and fans who suffered damages of any kind in the Champions League final 2022 in Paris can assess the appropriate claims against UEFA in defense of their legitimate personal interests”.
