Real Madrid like it in Belgrade against Red Star
Musa and Tavares allow the whites to stay at the top of the Euroleague
MADRID, 10 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Real Madrid defeated Red Star (59-79) this Tuesday at the start of the second round of the Regular Phase of the Euroleague 2022-2023, on matchday 18 held in the Sala Pionir in Belgrade, from an initial exhibition that did not He only improved in the second half, to return to the top of the standings.
The white team returned to the path of victory as a visitor, after ending the year in a bad way due to setbacks in Kaunas and Vitoria. Thus, Chus Mateo’s men (12/6) reinforced their European aspirations in their fight to dominate the ‘Top 4’, thanks to a sensational game by Dzanan Musa (19 points) and the effectiveness in the paint of a great Walter Tavares ( 17 points and 12 rebounds).
White’s superiority was too much punishment for a combative Red Star who threatened to stand up to the Spanish, but ended up taking the knee. The Serbs (9/9), who continue to push their chances of reaching the ‘playoffs’ zone, did not make effective the great game of Nemanja Nedovic (18).
In the ‘hot’ Pionir, Chus Mateo’s team soon showed their great offensive potential, with a sensational Tavares who became master of the inside game. The Cape Verdean (7) subdued the Serbs in the first moments in the area, to nullify their rebound and allow the whites to take advantage on the scoreboard. Only Nedovic’s success from the line of three (8) allowed the Serbs not to go too far on the scoreboard at the end of the first ten minutes (16-25).
With the same defensive solidity as at the beginning, the visiting team simmered a second quarter that went from more to less, to establish a high game rhythm in the first moments with success from the triple and from the paint itself. However, Nedovic (14 points and 4/4 in triples) appeared again to reduce the white superiority and send his team to halftime with the minimum so far in the light (34-38).
Chus Mateo’s team maintained the same inertia after the restart and ended up allowing the locals to come back. For the first time in the entire match, Dusko Ivanovic’s men took the lead on the scoreboard, with a feeling of superiority in their outside game. Even so, the whites did not lose face in the game and led by Dzanan Musa (17) and, once again, Tavares (9 rebounds) held the team back to prevail on the scoreboard at the end of the third (51-57 ).
Thus, the Madrid team went for a clash that faced the last ten minutes with maximum equality on the track. Sergio Rodríguez (7 assists) took control of the match to finish giving peace of mind to his team and sign a superb closing game. The whites took out the roller to finish crushing a Red Star unable to react. With only 8 points scored in the last set, Ivanovic’s men became mere spectators of a Real Madrid that knew how to like each other at the end (59-79).
