The 20 clubs that generated the most revenue in world football obtained a record of 11.2 billion euros in the 2023/24 season, according to the 28th edition of the Football Money League report prepared by Deloitte, which represents a 6% increase in revenue totals compared to the previous season.
According to this report released this Thursday, Real Madrid leads the ranking for the second consecutive year, being the first football club to exceed one billion euros in turnover in a single season in which it was champion of La Liga and the Champions League (1,045 .5 million turnover vs 831.4 in 2022/23, 25.8% more).
The completion of the renovation works at the Santiago Bernabéu caused revenue per match day to double, reaching 248 million euros. The club also recorded a 19% increase in commercial revenue (from €403 million to €482 million), driven by higher merchandising volumes and new sponsorships.
Regarding the rest of the Spanish clubs that enter the Top 20, FC Barcelona went from fourth to sixth place, reaching a turnover of 760.3 million euros, compared to the 800.1 reached in the 2022/2023 season, which It meant a 5% reduction in income. This decrease was due to a drop of 63 million euros in revenue per match day due to the need to play at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium.
For its part, Atlético de Madrid, twelfth in this earnings table, achieved revenues of 409.5 million euros, 12.5% more than the 364.1 registered in the previous season. In addition, commercial and match day revenues are growing the most in these clubs, 11% year-on-year and 10% driven mainly by an increase in the organization of live events not linked to football.
Finally, there was no increase in sports broadcasting income (4.3 billion euros) reported by the clubs since each of the five major European leagues were subject to the same television broadcasting contracts as the previous season.
Manchester City maintains second place in the ranking, being the English club with the highest income (837.8 million in turnover vs 825.9 in 2022/23, 1.4% more)), once again surpassing its own record of income in a season. On the other hand, Juventus experienced the biggest drop in the ranking (356 million euros), falling from 11th to 16th place, its lowest position in the history of the Football Money League report.
For its part, sporting performance played a crucial role in the financial boost of many teams, such as Arsenal (717 million euros), Borussia Dortmund (514 million euros), Newcastle (372 million euros) and Aston Villa (310 million of euros). The clubs ranked 11th to 20th are a reflection of the impact of the pitch on financial performance.
For the third consecutive year, the Football Money League report also compiles a ranking of the 15 women’s clubs that generate the highest income, with these clubs reporting income in excess of €100 million for the first time.
FC Barcelona Femenino remains in first position among the clubs analyzed, with 17.9 million euros in income, which represents an increase of 26% compared to the 2022/23 season when taking into account the group’s income.
