Real Madrid finishes second place in League F and Madrid CFF takes third place

MADRID, 21 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Madrid dealt an almost definitive blow to the conquest of the runners-up position in League F by beating Levante UD at home (2-4) and further fueled the fight for third place, now in the hands of Madrid CFF, which put an end to Athletic Club’s great streak (2-1), in matches corresponding to the twenty-fourth day of the championship.

With 18 points left to play, the Madrid team already has second place in its hands since its good victory in Buñol gives it a cushion of 12 points over the third placed team, which is no longer the ‘granota’ team, which has fallen to fifth place.

Levante UD had attacked the Alfredo di Stéfano in the first round, but showed that they are not at their best despite taking the lead very early on the scoreboard through the Brazilian Gabi Nunes, an advantage that they managed to maintain until after the hour mark of game.

But in the 66th minute, a former player, Claudia Zornoza, equalized with a great shot and the locals gradually fell apart. Linda Caicedo made the comeback shortly after and put the sentence in the final stretch where she also scored Maite Oroz before Leire Baños made up the score in added time.

Levante’s defeat was taken advantage of by two of its rivals for third place, which is now the property of Madrid CFF, although with little advantage. The Madrid team took the other direct duel of the day by beating Athletic Club by 21 ‘in extremis’, which is five points away from the Champions League.

Madrid CFF ended the victorious streak of seven consecutive games won by David Aznar’s team, which started behind on the scoreboard with an own goal from Maite Zubieta. Sara Ortega tied in the second half and the points stayed with Fernando Torres thanks to a goal in the 89th minute by Luani.

Behind Víctor Martín’s team was Atlético de Madrid, which did not forgive Betis at the Cívitas Metropolitano, with a 5-1 victory over a rival that returned to the relegation zone. Ludmila da Silva, Rasheedat Ajibade and Estefanía Banini scored in the first half and although Rosa Márquez scored at the beginning of the second, Sheila Guijarro and Lucía Moral closed the scoring in the final minutes.

The Betic defeat was taken advantage of by Granada, who escaped relegation thanks to their 2-1 victory against Costa Adeje Tenerife, while Eibar and Valencia took a step towards salvation with their victories against bottom club Sporting Club Huelva (0 -1) and against a downtrodden Real Sociedad (3-0), respectively. On the other hand, Villarreal lost at home to Sevilla 1-2 and were two points away from the ‘burning’.

In addition, the weekend brought a new team for the next season of the F League, Deportivo de La Coruña, which returns to the elite after three years of absence after certifying its promotion in front of 14,000 people in Riazor by winning 3-1 to the Cacereño Femenino.
