Real Madrid Femenino loses to the push of Chelsea

Defeat of the merengue team (2-1) on their visit to Stamford Bridge

MADRID, 24 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Madrid lost 2-1 this Wednesday on their visit to Chelsea FC, in a match corresponding to matchday 5 of the Women's Champions League, thus confirming the Real Madrid players' status as bottom in Group D, being eliminated beforehand.

On the Stamford Bridge grass, the locals showed greater bite in attack and translated it into a good scoring opportunity in the 11th minute. It was the work of Guro Reiten with a cross-shot from the wing that was deflected into a corner by Merengue goalkeeper Mylène Chavas, a regular substitute for Misa Rodríguez.

The 'blues' put pressure on Chavas with a header from Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and the white team responded through Tere Abelleira with a strong shot that was saved by Ashley Lawrence, almost between the posts, in the 23rd minute. Linda Caicedo was also not far from danger after half an hour, but the visiting team began to fade little by little before the break.

Although Reiten had another chance for the English team, after a combination with Erin Cuthbert, Abelleira had emerged as the main defensive stopper in key moments of the first half. However, Chelsea's momentum was rewarded with the 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute, due to a penalty committed by Hayley Raso on Niamh Charles.

Reiten transformed it without problems, deceiving Chavas from the side, and the match thickened. Despite this, Real Madrid equalized the score in a quick offensive, driven by Caroline Moller with a pass to the right wing. There Raso gained the back of her defender, got into the area, avoided the exit of the local goalkeeper and assisted Athenea del Castillo, who pushed that 1-1 into the back of the net.

However, the players coached by Emma Hayes did not give up and a little later they made it 2-1, ultimately final, with a Cuthbert pass down the right side; Chelsea's '22' rushed to the baseline, escaped from a Madrid defender and crossed into the small area, where Chavas put the ball into his own goal when he was trying to clear it for a corner.

The locals did little else, who did not suffer at the back to maintain their advantage until the final whistle of Portuguese referee Catarina Campos. This victory placed the London team with 11 points in the lead of the group, leaving Real Madrid at the bottom and showing only one point in their locker.
