Real Madrid beat Atlético by 141 wins to 68

Balance. Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid have met in 276 official matches, with 141 victories for Real, 68 victories for Atleti and 67 draws. In total, 822 official goals were scored in the history of the Madrid derby, 474 for the white club and 348 for the rojiblanco team.

Valdebebas. The Alfredo Di Stéfano will be the sixth venue in which Madrid plays at home against Atlético, after the Campo de O'Donnell (ten games), the Ciudad Lineal Velodrome (one game), the old Chamartín (28 games), the Metropolitan Stadium (one game) and the Santiago Bernabéu (98 games). The Whites did not win against Atlético or their first derby at Chamartín (1-1), nor their first derby at the Bernabéu (1-1), or their only home derby at the Metropolitano (1-2).

Precedents. Atlético has played eight LaLiga games as Madrid's field leader, adding two victories (1-4 in 1940 and 1-2 in 1946), two draws and four defeats. The most recent precedent dates from November 18, 1995 (Madrid won 1-0, with a goal from Raúl). Madrid have lost three of their last four home games to the first in the standings (0-4 in 2015, 0-3 in 2017 and 0-1 in 2019, always against Barcelona).

As a local. Madrid have already received Atlético on four occasions, with a disadvantage of six (or more) points in the qualifying table compared to the rojiblancos. These precedents were resolved with two local victories (1-0 in 1995, with a disadvantage of 12 points, and 2-0 in 2012, with eight points of disadvantage) and two draws (1-1 in 1948, with a disadvantage of 10 points, and 1-1 in 1977 with a 12-point disadvantage).

points. If Atlético wins tonight's game, they will have a nine-point advantage (with one game less) over Madrid, a difference from the leader that the Whites have never managed to overcome in La Liga history (their best comeback to obtain the title were eight points and one game less with respect to Real Sociedad in the 2002-03 season). The biggest comeback in the Spanish championship dates from the 1998-99 season, in which Barcelona was champion despite being nine points behind Mallorca on matchday 14.

Streak. Atlético have not lost a league game since February 1 (1-0 at the Bernabéu, goal by Benzema). His current streak of 26 consecutive games without losing is the best in the club's history and the ninth best of all time in the Spanish championship (18 away from surpassing the historical record set by Ernesto Valverde's Barcelona between April 2017 and May 2018). No other First Club has more than nine games in a row without losing.

thrown out. Atlético have only conceded two goals against in the first ten days of the League, equaling Deportivo's historic record (with Paco Liaño in goal) for the 1993-94 season. Since the double 0-0 against Villarreal and Huesca, they have seven victories in a row, just three short of equaling the best record of the club that dates back to 1983. With 26 (or more points) in the first ten days, the rojiblanco team was always champion (seasons 1995-96 and 2013-14).

Big Karim. Benzema will surpass the 527 official matches of Roberto Carlos today and will become the foreign player with the most matches played in the history of Real Madrid (359 in the League, 43 in the Cup, eight in the Spanish Super Cup, 106 in the Cup. in Europe, four in the European Super Cup and eight in the Club World Cup). Benzema debuted on August 29, 2009 (3-2 victory against Deportivo) and is the fifth highest scorer in the club's history (with 257 goals), only behind Cristiano (450), Raúl (323), Di Stéfano (308) and Santillana (290).

Atletico record. Koke can today become the player with the most official matches won in Atlético's history. At the moment the rojiblanco youth squad (473 games played) is tied at 279 wins with Adelardo (550 games). They are followed by Tomás (240 victories in 483 games), Gabi (239 in 417), Collar (235 in 468) and Godín (228 victories in 389 games).

Presidents. Tonight's derby will be Florentino Pérez's 979th game as president of Real Madrid and Enrique Cerezo's 930th as president of Atlético de Madrid. The former still has a long way to go to catch up with Don Santiago Bernabéu (1,407 official matches as club president), while the latter is already very close to the 966 matches Vicente Calderón reached and could even reach the same season if the team goes far in both the Copa del Rey and the European Cup.
