Reactions to Rubiales’ long-awaited goodbye: the cover of the ‘Times’ and Belarra and Montero’s “it’s over”

The resignation of Luis Rubiales as head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation has caused a wave of reactions among the political class. Also, in the international media, as stated on its cover The Times. Among others, Yolanda Díaz, leader of Sumar and acting Minister of Labor, has spoken; and Ione Belarra and Irene Montero.

Yolanda Díaz has assured that the feminist country “is advancing faster and faster.” The acting Minister of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 and general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has limited herself to writing “it’s over” on her Twitter profile (X). The same message that the Secretary of State for Equality, Ángela Rodríguez Pam, has shared in capital letters, as has the acting Minister of Equality, Irene Montero. A true feminist anthem whose pioneer was the beloved artist María Jiménez.

Miquel Iceta has echoed the news by sharing the front page of The Times, with the news of Rubiales’ resignation.

Rubiales has left his position this Sunday the 10th as president of the RFEF, after three weeks of controversy over his non-consensual kiss with Jenni Hermoso and his behavior during the Women’s World Cup final.

While that goodbye was taking place, the player Jenni Hermoso received a tribute in Mexico. The Mexican league and its team, Pachuca, wanted to offer their love to the Madrid team this Sunday. The president of Pachuca, Armando Martínez, gave her a t-shirt with her number, her name and the legend World Champion, along with a painting with the image of her lifting the World Cup trophy.
