Grades for the Rasul Douglas trade: the Bills get a safety they need and send the Packers a third-round pick.

The Buffalo Bills added a much-needed cornerback to their defense at the 2023 NFL trade deadline.

According to NFL Media and verified by CBS Sports Lead the NFL Insider Jonathan Jones, team president Brandon Beane sent the team’s third-round selection to the Green Bay Packers as compensation for defensive end Rasul Douglas as well as a fifth-round pick.

Football League America says the Bills called more teams than anyone else last week about cornerbacks and defensive backs. In the end, Buffalo gets the experienced Douglas.

The 28-year-old has played for Green Bay for more than two times and has made 32 tackles, defended six passes, and picked off one pass this season. He has played in seven games.

Douglas has recovered 10 passes for the Packers in 36 games over the course of his career. Buffalo lost star cornerback Tre’Davious White for the season because of a torn Achilles.

Other members of the secondary have been sick over the last few weeks, including Kaiir Elam (ankle), Dane Jackson (foot), Cam Lewis (shoulder), as well as Christian Benford (shoulder).

This season, the Bills allow 204.1 yards of passing per game, a rating that’s above average (No. 10).

However, the Bills wanted to improve their strength within their secondary in order to keep up with the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East.

This season, the Bills have had a lot of problems on defense, but on Tuesday, the NFL deal deadline, they added to their team in one area.

Douglas’s deal has no more years to run. He will make $571,764 this year and $6.25 million next year.

Brandon Beane, the general manager of the Bills, traded Rasul Douglas, a cornerback, and a 2024 fifth-round pick for Green Bay in a deal with the Packers.

Doug, who is 29 years old, has been with the Packers for two and a half years and has become an effective leader in coordinator Joe Barry’s zone-heavy system.

Even though he’s had some problems this year, he’s still a good player for Buffalo. He gives them another choice now that Tre’Davious White is out for the season due to an Achilles tear.

Douglas has made 15 interceptions in seven NFL seasons, playing for the Eagles, Panthers, or Packers. In 2021, his first year in Green Bay, he had his best year. He had five interceptions, which helped the Packers win the NFC title.

Douglas will play on the perimeter in Buffalo, across from Dane Jackson as well as Christian Benford. Taron Johnson will play in the slot.

Because Douglas is now on the team, senior Josh Norman and second-year player Kaiir Elam will have less time.

Of course, Douglas’s deal has a lot to do with the return of a third-round pick. The Bills are getting Douglas not only for this year however through 2024. This is important because White might need time to heal next season as well.

The Buffalo Bills added a much-needed cornerback to their defense at the 2023 NFL trade deadline.

According to NFL Media and verified by CBS Sports Lead NFL Insider Jonathan Jones, general manager Brandon Beane sent the team’s third-round selection to the Green Bay Packers in exchange over cornerback Rasul Douglas and a fifth-round pick.

Doug was signed by the Packers from the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad during the 2021 season.

In a little more than half a season, he led the team via five interceptions. They signed them to a three-year, twenty-one million dollar deal that off-season.

Douglas played in all 16 games this season and enjoyed one interception. It looks like the Packers will now put youngster Carrington Valentine in the corner next to Jaire Alexander. Eric Stokes will be out with an injury for at least a further three weeks.

Doug gives the Buffalo Bills another veteran figure and the cornerback help they were looking for after Tre’Davious White tore his right Achilles within Week 4 and was out for the season.

From Weeks 1–4, White was on the Bills’ defense, and they had an NFL-high eight interceptions. They also gave up the fewest overall QBR (24.7) and passing yards (169.5) in those games.
