Rams will sign quarterback Carson Wentz will play backup for Matthew Stafford, and Brett Rypien was released.

A source told Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network on Tuesday that the Los Angeles Rams are likely to sign Wentz, but only after he passes a physical. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston was the first to report the story.

Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Rams, missed their loss to Green Bay in Week 9 because he hurt his hand.

Backup quarterback Brett Rypien didn’t do a good job in the loss. He threw for 130 yards and lost a fumble and an interception.

Pelissero later said that L.A. was dismissing the veteran, so it looks like Rypien’s time there was over after that showing.

In Week 10, the Rams don’t play. It sounded like that head coach Sean McVay was hopeful this week which Stafford could be able to come back after the week off. However, adding Wentz gives the quarterback room another option.

Rams coach McVay said on Monday that he thinks Stafford will be able to play in their next game, which is against Seattle on November 19. However, the fact that the Rams signed Wentz shows that they want to be prepared in case Stafford is hurt again or the injury lasts longer than expected.

Along with Stafford and Rypien, Los Angeles tried to get through the entire season with only two quarterbacks.

The Rams picked Stetson Bennett within the fourth round of the draft last spring. However, the two-time national winner at Georgia has not been with the team since the start of the season for unknown reasons.

Stafford skipped the second quarter of last season because his spinal cord was hurt, and the Rams had trouble with subs John Wolford or Bryce Perkins.

Then, Los Angeles got Baker Mayfield, that led the Rams to an impressive win over Las Vegas just two hours after signing. He finally got his career back on track enough to get a new deal to start for Tampa Bay this season.

After giving both players a lot of attention, Rams manager Les Snead picked Jared Goff over Carson Wentz with the first pick during the 2016 draft.

It was Goff’s job to get the Rams to the Super Bowl. He was later moved to Detroit for Stafford, who claimed the Super Bowl within the inaugural year with the Los Angeles Rams.

November 6: the rypien is gone Reports say that the Los Angeles Rams waived backup player Brett Rypien on Tuesday after a terrible start against the Packers of Green Bay on Sunday.

In Rypien’s only start for the team, he made 13 out of 28 passes for 130 yards and ran one down. He also lost a ball twice, and Green Bay picked it up. The move came shortly following the Rams signed Carson Wentz, an experienced quarterback who was picked second overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.

A source told Tyler Dragon of USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday that the experienced quarterback will sign up with the Los Angeles Rams following passing a physical. This person spoke without giving their name because the deal wasn’t public yet.

Matthew Stafford, the starter, hurt his thumb in Week 8’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. As of later Tuesday, the team let go of backup quarterback Brett Rypien and practice club quarterback Dresser Winn. Wentz is expected to be their backup.

Nate Davis of USA TODAY Sports put the Rams’ reserve quarterback position at No. 30 last Friday.

In Week 9, Rypien took over for Stafford and made 13 out of 28 passes over 130 yards and one interception. The Ravens lost 20–3 against the Green Bay Packers.

Stafford’s main backup quarterback at the start of the season was fourth-round youngster Stetson Bennett. Bennett has been out with a non-football injury since September 13.

A source told ESPN’s reporter Adam Schefter on Tuesday that the Los Angeles Rams signed qb Carson Wentz to fill in for Matthew Stafford, who is hurt.

The Rams signed Wentz during their week off, which gave him time to get used to the system in Los Angeles.

Stafford went out of the Rams’ loss to the Cowboys in Week 8 with a torn ulnar collateral ligament within his right thumb. He didn’t play against the Packers in Green Bay the next week either.

After him, quarterback Brett Rypien took over. In Week 9, he made 46.4% of his passes to 130 yards and an interception.
