Rahm sinks and Garcia is still far from the lead in Augusta

MADRID, 10 Apr. (SportsFinding) –

The Spanish golfers Jon Rahm and Sergio García did not have a good day this Saturday on the third day of the Augusta Masters and complicated their options with two cards of +5 and +2, respectively, which sinks the Basque and leaves the Castellón player in a distant provisional ‘top 30’ waiting to complete the session.

Rahm, located in the 41st position, signed his worst day at the Augusta National after raising his record to 77 shots. The record left the former number one in the world without options to be in the fight for the green jacket this Sunday. In total, five ‘bogeys’ and a double ‘bogey’ condemned his participation in this 2022 edition.

Identical position to that occupied by Tiger Woods, who had claimed the spotlight after returning to action after his serious car accident. The Californian, who surprised in his debut with good numbers, was losing steam as the days went by and this Saturday he finished with a total of six over par to finish with +7 overall, just like Rahm.

For his part, Sergio García was more successful than his compatriot but also far from the best in a day that started with a birdie and was clouded with two bogeys in the last three holes. The ‘Niño’, winner of the Masters in 2017, delivered a card of 74 hits, two above par to total +4 that places him in twenty-sixth place.

The leadership continues to be a thing of the number one in the world, Scottie Scheffler, who in the absence of completing the route of the third day commands with authority with 10 under par in the field. A stratospheric mark adorned with six ‘birdies’ that allow him to continue leading ahead of the Australian Cameron Smith (-6) and the South African Charl Schwartzel (-4), of the most prominent this Saturday.

The best was the local Justin Thomas with 67 shots, a mark that puts him squarely in the ‘top 10’ although it is difficult for him to fight for victory. In between appear a list of golfers led by Sungjae Im, leader on the first day, Shane Lowry and the Canadian Corey Conners, who also endures the pull despite his bad day.
