Rahm and Tiger tuned for the PGA at Southern Hills

The Basque leads the Spanish option, with the presence of Sergio García, Adri Arnaus and Pablo Larrazábal

The American threatens again with the 16th ‘big’ after his stellar return in Augusta

MADRID, 19 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The PGA Championship, the second ‘major’ of the season, is being played from Thursday to Sunday at the Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with four Spanish representatives led by Jon Rahm, and the spotlight divided between Tiger Woods and the good tricks for the Wanamaker trophy to stay in the United States.

Rahm savored victory at the Mexico Open in early May, almost a year after his previous triumph. That was the US Open, a historic feat that he hopes to emulate at a PGA that has never been won by a Spaniard. The seventh trophy in the American circuit returns the tusk to the Basque, in search of regularity.

Like the one from Barrika, Adri Arnaus, in Girona, and Pablo Larrazábal, in South Africa and Tarragona, they know what it means to win not only this 2022 but recently on the DP World Tour. In addition, Sergio García will look for his options while he becomes the Spaniard with the most ‘Grand Slams’ played, tied at 93 with José María Olazabal.

The one from Borriol is one of the allies of the Saudi league that challenges the world of golf established on both sides of the Atlantic. A new circuit at the gates of his birth while the reaction of the PGA and the European Tour remains to be seen. Phil Mickelson, another of his supporters and defending champions, will not be in Tulsa.

The American fans have, as in Augusta a little over a month ago, the supreme incentive of enjoying Tiger Woods. The Californian left another chapter in his legend for the mere fact of competing in the four days of the Masters, when he returned to action a year and a half after a serious car accident.

Fatigue and pain took their toll, but the ‘Tiger’, four-time champion, returns to the fray in search of the ‘big’ 16 that will bring him a little closer to Jack Nicklaus (18). The list of favorites is dominated by local players, such as the number one in the world and resounding winner of the Masters, Scottie Scheffler, or Jordan Spieth who can close the ‘Grand Slam’ with the only title that is missing.
