Rafael Carrión, president of Sevilla between 1997 and 2000, dies at 81

MADRID, 15 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sevilla FC has reported the death at the age of 81 of Rafael Carrión Moreno, who belonged to the management body of the Sevilla club and was its president between 1997 and 2000, and who until this Friday was still one of the entity's largest shareholders.

“Son of Rafael Carrión Romero, director of the club for many years, before becoming president he had also been part of the club's management body,” Sevilla highlighted on its website.

“Finally, on May 15, 1997, he was named head of the club in a very difficult period, both economically and sportingly. During his mandate, the club would achieve the memorable promotion to First Division in that promotion against Villarreal CF,” added the Press release.

However, regarding that presidential stage, the note pointed out that “after only one year in the top category, the poor performance of the team, which would end up returning to the silver division, led to its resignation and the arrival of Roberto Alés to the presidency. “.

Rafael Carrión left his position, despite which he continued to be one of the entity's largest shareholders. “In fact, several of his children have taken up the mantle since then, forming part of the Board of Directors,” the press text stated.

“Currently, his sons Fernando – vice president II – and Jesús, in addition to Gabriel Ramos, represent the actions of the Carrión family. Sevilla wishes to be at the side of the relatives and friends of Rafael Carrión in these difficult moments, conveying its most “deepest condolences,” concluded the Sevilla note.
