Rafael Amargo abandons his hunger strike from prison: “In ten days he lost 10 kilos and contracted Covid”

The new year began for Rafael Amargo with a hunger strike from prison. It was on day 3 when he made the decision not to eat food, considering that it was unfair that his requests for provisional release were denied. It must be remembered that he was admitted to the Madrid prison of Soto del Real at the beginning of November after not going to court to sign and there being, according to the justice system, a risk of escape.

His wife, Luciana Bongianinohas now revealed that the dancer is no longer on a hunger strike: “He had to abandon it for health reasons. In ten days he lost 10 kilos and contracted Covid, so it was recommended that he stop fasting. It has us all very worried“, he explained in Pronto this Monday.

Meanwhile, his legal team continues working on his defense: “His lawyer is preparing new documents to take to the Provincial Court of Madrid in order to present a new appeal to grant him provisional freedom and to wait abroad.” to the celebration of the trial,” adds the Argentine dancer.

A few days ago, it was precisely his new lawyer who told the media that the artist was on a hunger strike: “'On the 3rd [de enero] He made the decision, on the 4th he announced it, on the 7th I went to see him and he was already a little emaciated, a little bad and from then on he stopped calling me and started sending other prisoners to call me (…) They weigh him every day to see if he is really losing weight or if he is failing to comply and they told him 'choose, either you die or you stop the hunger strike.'”

It must be remembered that the bailaor entered provisional prison on November 3 after not going to court to sign. The artist had to do it every fifteen days after being accused of drug trafficking in 2020 and also being investigated for attacking authority.

Section 30 of the Madrid court denied the appeal filed by the artist against the order of November 3 by which the magistrates agreed to the precautionary measure of provisional detention without bail until the trial, scheduled for April of this year. , between days 8 and 12.

In that order, the same Section argued risk of flight and repeated breach of the obligation to sign every 15 days in the judicial body, as defended by the Prosecutor's Office, and sent Rafael Amargo to the Soto del Real prison. He also took the same measure for another of the three defendants facing trial, the producer Eduardo de Santos.
