Rafa Benítez promises to fight for Everton despite the ‘sticks’

Rafa Benítez, Everton's new coach and former Liverpool manager, hopes to forge a winning mentality at the Goodison Park club and convince fans that he is the right man for the job, despite already facing criticism for his appointment to the last weeks.

Benítez was hired by Everton in June for the next three seasons, but the decision was unpopular given Benítez's illustrious past with Liverpool, whom he managed from 2004 to 2010 and with whom, among other trophies, he won the 2004 Champions League. 05.

Merseyside police also investigated a banner against Benitez, near his family home in Wirral prior to his appointment, but the 61-year-old said he had been welcomed back to the city by both Liverpool football sides: Liverpool red. and Everton blue.

Benitez angered Everton fans in 2007 when he called them a “small club” while coaching Liverpool. When asked about those comments, he replied: “It depends on the context. It was a long time ago and I was fighting for my club ”. “That is what I am doing now. I will fight for Everton in every game and compete against anyone. I am happy that this club is getting bigger and bigger ”.

Benitez said he plans to be ambitious in the transfer market, but knows that results on the field will decide how he is received at Goodison Park.
