Quim Salarich shines in the Alta Badia Slalom with his first ‘top 15’ of the season

MADRID, 23 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Catalan Quim Salarich sneaked into the top 30 this Monday for the first time this season in the Alta Badia Slalom (Italy), the fourth of the season, finishing, with a very high number, 48, in 28th place the first sleeve, to then come back in the second sleeve and achieve their first ‘top 15’ of the course, according to a statement from the Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation (RFEDI).

Salarich entered the top 30 for the first time this season in the fourth Slalom of the season in Alta Badia, in Italy with a very high number, a highly notable fact. With a very high number, 48, he was very competitive, placing 28th in the first race and leaving the track in optimal condition in the second race, finishing the race in 15th place, after climbing a total of 13 positions.

The track conditions were very complex. From early in the morning it was clear that the first athletes to start from the gate would have a great advantage over the rest, since the track was marked little by little and did not allow good speed to be generated in areas such as the flat.

Salarich’s strategy was to be conservative in the first part in which other athletes had already left, and then push and gain speed and inertia in the middle and final part. This is how, marking one of the slowest first references, he went from less to more to close his first race 2.98 behind the first runner, the Norwegian Timon Haugan. Only one number higher than the Catalan could qualify among the top 30, the Italian Simon Maurberger.

In the second race, Salarich had an excellent opportunity to make up positions, starting third, and he did not waste his chance. With a large sector in the flat area, even with a small error, he was able to place himself in provisional first position, setting a great record to dream of a comeback that finally materialized in 13 places to finish a great fifteenth place, with the seventh best time of the second sleeve.

After finishing his test, Salarich celebrated being “on the mark again.” “We knew that in the summer we had worked very hard physically and technically and we were facing the World Cup in a great situation. In Levi (Finland) and Gurgl (Austria) I didn’t have time to show it, Val d’Isère (France) was a real struggle, but today I have been able to show my potential,” he expressed.

“A very solid first race even failing at the beginning, but in the second race, starting third I had the perfect track, I pushed and enjoyed and here we are and we are going to fight to stay in these positions in the future,” he added.

Finally, Juan del Campo and Aingeru Garay could not make the cut of the top 30 due to the state of the track and finished in 41st and 42nd position, respectively, in a race that was won by the Norwegian Timon Haugan. .
