Pulisic, first American to play and win a Champions League

American football made history this Saturday in Porto in the Champions League by having for the first time a player, striker Christian Pulisic, who played the final and won it with Chelsea, the new European monarch.

Pulisic, who has 36 appearances for the United States, entered in the 66th minute of the match that Chelsea beat Manchester City 1-0 at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto.

The 22-year-old has scored two goals in one season and given seven assists in 35 games played.

In addition, he is the American player who has played the most minutes in European football when he replaced Timo Werner in the second half in this Champions League final, which was witnessed by 16,500 fans after UEFA changed the Istanbul venue to that of Porto.

With Chelsea's triumph, the Pennsylvania native became the second American to treasure a Champions League, joining Jovan Kirovski, who won it with Borussia Dortmund in 1997, although the latter, unlike Pulisic, only played in parts of two group stage games that season.

Kirovski never had the role of Pulisic, who was the author of the goal that Chelsea scored against Real Madrid in the first leg of this tie played at the Alfredo Di Stéfano in the Ciudad Deportiva de Valdebebas that ended in a one-goal draw.

Pulisic with Chelsea achieved one goal and two assists during the knockout stage of the tournament.
