Princess Leonor’s big day: this is how the Congress of Deputies finalizes all the preparations

Countdown in the Congress of Deputies. Next October 31, the day of her, the princess’s, 18th birthday Leonor will swear the Constitution before the Cortes Generales. Just like his father, the king, did Philip VI in 1986. Just three days before the big day of the heir to the throne, the Lower House is finalizing the preparations for a historic session in the Chamber.

The 350 seats, which are normally occupied by deputies from the different political groups, will be replaced by 600 velvet chairs. This increase in capacity will allow deputies, senators, members of the acting Government, regional presidents and senior institutional officials to attend the swearing-in of the Princess of Asturias on the 31st. Likewise, it is expected that the modification work will be completed this Friday, with enough time to resolve any unforeseen events.

The ceremony may have some decorative elements, which were also used in the swearing in of the Constitution of Felipe VI, as well as in its proclamation of 2014. As happened 37 years ago, a stage has been installed in the speakers’ area, where Leonor will swear the Constitution. In addition, the structure will be decorated with carpets from the Royal House of Tapestry.

Although there are still three days left until the solemn oath of the Constitution, several stands have already been installed in the vicinity of Congress. It is estimated that the Madrid City Council will install giant screens on the façade of the Royal Post Office, headquarters of the Community of Madrid in Puerta del Sol. It will also be possible to watch in the iconic Callao cinemas. Furthermore, the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeidaannounced that the City Council will distribute flags and Leonor’s image will appear on the mupis and on advertising stands in the streets of the capital.
