Princess Leonor and the Jura de Bandera before turning 18: all the details of her first military act

There is already a date for one of the most important days in the life of the heiress within her military career. The princess will be sworn in to the flag on October 7, 24 days before reaching the age of majority. It will be in the General Academy of Zaragozawhich Leonor He will enter on August 17 with the rest of his teammates. An emotional and solemn ceremony attended by his parents, the kings Felipe and Letiziaand from which it is probable that his sister, the Infanta Sofía, must be absent due to her academic obligations in Wales.

The Jura de Bandera is the first act in which the cadets will wear the Army dress uniform. They will form and parade before the Spanish flag to kiss it; Minutes later, they take a joint oath: “Spaniards! Do you swear or promise on your conscience and honor to uphold the Constitution as a fundamental rule of the State, with loyalty to the King and, if necessary, give your life in defense of Spain? Yes , we do!”. The act also marks the beginning of the professional life of the military, who from this day begin to enter a payroll of 1,073 euros, money that the heiress has renounced.

The princess has been preparing for weeks in order to take the entrance tests to the Academy, which require minimum strength, speed and endurance marks. She will start in Zaragoza as a cadet lady, her lowest rank, and will go through the three academies (land, sea and air) throughout her three years of training, which will end in 2026.

As we said, Leonor will enter the Academy on August 17 along with the rest of her classmates. She then begins the welcome phase, in which all cadets will receive guidance and will have time to adapt to the facilities and rules of coexistence. On September 10 begins the Instruction Phase and training and on September 19 the act of Delivery of Sabers, in which a second-year cadet will present this weapon to a newcomer. The opening ceremony of the course will be held the following day, on September 20.
