The news that the king Carlos III suffers from cancer has fallen like a bucket of cold water on the United Kingdom. Buckingham Palace was in charge of announcing it this Monday via statement to avoid speculation, although it reserves the type of cancer he suffers from and the phase in which he is. The reactions have not been long in coming: from the Prime Minister, Richi Sunak, to the Prince Guillermowho is dedicated to the recovery of his wife, Kate Middleton.
The Prince of Wales is devastated after his father's diagnosis, as it comes at a very delicate time for him and his three children. His wife underwent abdominal surgery just two weeks ago, a major surgery for which she was hospitalized for 13 days and which will keep her out, at least, until after Easter. The secrecy surrounding the princess's illness has generated rumors that also pointed to possible cancer, something that Kensington denied without further details.
Guillermo now finds himself between a rock and a hard place, between duty and the family, to which he dedicated himself. The prince canceled his schedule when his wife was admitted but then they expected his father's sick leave to be extended for a few days. Now the situation has become complicated for him, since he is the heir and his obligation is, together with Queen Camilla, to attend to his duties with the Crown in the absence of the monarch.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was one of the first to react to Buckingham Palace's announcement: “Wishing His Majesty a speedy and complete recovery. I have no doubt that he will regain his full strength in a short time and I know that everything the country will wish him the best.”
Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery.
I have no doubt he’ll be back to full strength in no time and I know the whole country will be wishing him well. https://t.co/W4qe806gmv

For his part, the leader of the opposition, Keir Starmer, of the Labor party, said: “On behalf of the Labor Party, I wish His Majesty all the best for his recovery. We hope to see him quickly return to full health.”
