Primoz Roglic defends his triple crown in La Vuelta 22

MADRID, 15 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Slovenian cyclist Primoz Roglic will lead Jumbo-Visma in La Vuelta 22 in the search for his fourth consecutive victory in the Spanish round, where he will defend that triple crown together with a brave block.

Primoz Roglic, Edoardo Affini, Sam Oomen, Sepp Kuss, Robert Gesink, Mike Teunissen, Chris Harper and Rohan Dennis make up the ‘8’ of the Dutch team for La Vuelta, which will take place from August 19 to September 11.

Roglic comes to this Vuelta in a similar situation to last year, when he won it after failing to finish the Tour de France. In this 2022, the Slovenian had to withdraw from the gala round again and, since then, he has already confirmed that wearing the Vuelta red jersey again, as in 2019, 2020 and 2021, was his goal.

Sporting director Merijn Zeeman said he was “delighted” that Primoz Roglic can defend his Vuelta crown after his serious injury in the Tour de France. “Of course, he hasn’t had the best preparation, but we respect him a lot for how he has known how to prepare,” he said.

“We have a good and balanced team that can optimally support Primoz in all areas. It is a pity that Koen Bouwman cannot get to the start due to his injury. We would have loved to see him in the Vuelta in the great form he showed during the last Giro d’Italia,” he acknowledged.
