Postponed the EP Meeting for the Centenary of the Aragonese Federation due to the flooding of the Ebro

MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Europa Press Sports Meeting on the occasion of the Centenary of the Aragonese Football Federation (FAF), which was to take place this Tuesday in Madrid, has been postponed due to the situation caused by the rising of the Ebro river and which has led to the Government Aragon to request the declaration of a catastrophic zone.

The presence of the presidents of the Aragonese Football Federation (FAF), Óscar Fle; from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales; the Mayor of Zaragoza, Jorge Azcón, and the President of Aragon, Javier Lambán.

The exceptional rise in the level of the Ebro river has required the establishment of an Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI), in which both the regional president Javier Lambán and Jorge Azcón participate to analyze the consequences caused by the flood in real time.

Apart from the postponement of the meeting, both Europa Press and the other institutions involved in this sporting event, the FAF, the RFEF, the Zaragoza City Council and the Government of Aragon want to express their solidarity with the people affected by this flood of the Ebro river .

At this meeting, Oscar Fle was going to unveil some of the milestones of the FAF Centennial, including the gala to be held on January 25 in Zaragoza. The project of the new Romareda, the possibility of hosting a meeting of the Spanish soccer team and of being one of the venues for the candidacy of Spain and Portugal for the 2030 Soccer World Championship were going to be, among others, some of the issues to be addressed.

During this century of life, the FAF has worked to develop and promote football in Aragon, and today it has become the most important non-profit social sports organization in this Autonomous Community.

In addition, Real Zaragoza struggles to return to the elite of a national football to which it has contributed with a record that includes, among other titles, six King’s Cups, a Spanish Super Cup, a Fair Cup and the 1995 Recopa, with that unforgettable goal from the center of the field of Nayim to Arsenal.

Aragon is also the land that saw the birth of international players such as Carlos Lapetra, José Luis Violeta, Villarroya or Víctor Muñoz; coaches of the stature of Víctor Fernández; arbitrators in the case of Daudén Ibañéz; and the directors José Luis Costa and José Luis Roca, both who were presidents of the RFEF.

Aragonese football has also participated very actively in international competitions as it was the venue for the only World Cup in Spain, in 1982, and the sub-venue for the Barcelona’92 Olympic Games, in which the highest medal award was achieved (22) for Spain. till the date.
