MADRID, 17 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Portuguese team beat Bosnia (3-0) this Saturday on the third day of the Euro 2024 qualifying phase, leader of Group J with a total of nine points, while Belgium had to settle for a draw ( 1-1) against Austria, leader of Group F although with one more game.
The Portuguese team, with Spanish coach Roberto Martínez, maintains a good dynamic with 13 goals for and none against in three games. Bosnia were no rival despite a first chance from Hadziahmetovic, gradually subdued at the Estádio da Luz with Portugal dominating possession.
Bernardo Silva, recent European champion with Manchester City, made it 1-0 just before the break and, after another Bosnian chance, this time by Dzeko, Bruno Fernandes put the Portuguese victory on track. The Manchester United player signed the double already in injury time, in another good performance by Roberto Martínez’s Portugal, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Félix in the eleven.
The 2016 European champion remains at the top of Group J with nine points, ahead of a Slovakia that added seven by beating Iceland (1-2), in the two tickets that give direct access to the next continental event year in Germany.
For its part, in Group F, Belgium was unable to overcome an Austria that marches on top with seven points, for the four of the ‘red devils’. The meeting in Brussels began with intensity and surprise due to Mangala’s own goal, a jug of cold water after the good start of Doku and Lukebakio at the premises.
Austria endured the siege at the King Baudouin Stadium until a Lukaku appeared hungry to get even for the Champions League final lost to Inter. The Belgian giant celebrated a great goal in the 62nd minute with rage, but Domenico Tedesco’s debut at home and the tribute to Eden Hazard showed work ahead for the ‘red devils’.
