Pope Francis, admitted for a lung infection at the age of 86

He Vatican issued a statement late on Wednesday to announce that the Pope Francisco86 years old, has been admitted for a “Respiratory infection”. They affirm that the situation is not worrisome but that he will have to remain several days in the Agostino Gemelli hospital in Rome, for which reason the papal audiences for the entire week have been cancelled.

“In recent days, Pope Francis had been suffering from some respiratory difficulties and this afternoon he went to the A. Gemelli Polyclinic for medical check-ups,” reads the official statement. They assure that Covid-19 has been ruled out but must remain under observation: “The tests showed a respiratory infection that will require a few days of medical therapy,” said the spokesman Matthew Bruni.
