Pol Lorente: “We found a committed and willing group”

Physical trainer Pol Lorente accompanies Javier Aguirre from his stay in Egypt and since then they have formed a technical team, the Catalan (Berga-Barcelona, 1988) having become a trusted man for the Mexican. Lorente is the physical trainer of the Mallorcan team, although his mission goes further since he has a degree in Physical Activity Sciences in addition to having the title of coach, so, in addition, he is Aguirre’s assistant in the technical-tactical task.

In declarations to the media of the Balearic club, Lorente affirms that he has “the fortune of coinciding with Aguirre in the Egyptian adventure, he was looking for a physical trainer and through some channels my name came to himwe met, we talked about everything except football and we saw that we could fit in”.

Arriving in Mallorca with the team flirting with relegation is quite a challenge and Lorente assures that they found “a healthy, committed and willing group, that is the most relevant”. In particular, the Catalan points out that he tries “to have a very personal and direct approach with the footballer to try to get to know the person with whom you are going to work and from that approach, you can demand a little more from the professional.”

Arriving to achieve permanence with only 9 games ahead of him is quite a challenge and Lorente acknowledges that it is a short time. After losing in the debut against Getafe and then winning against Atlético de Madrid, the vermilion team came out of the relegation places, something that now must be maintained, but given such a short space of time to achieve the goal, Lorente acknowledges that more immediate has been to enhance the merits of the team and correct mistakes: “When the train is running it is very difficult to change the route and we are trying to promote the things that are being done well and putting the stamp on what we consider essential for us by changing everything that could be done better, and that is a slow process because the result urges us, so we need it immediately”.

That said, the emotional factor seems key in a coaching staff that has a Majorcan member who knows the house, such as the second coach, Toni Amor, on which Lorente points out that “having Toni as a teammate, we always followed Mallorca wherever we werein Leganés or in Mexico, and he always talked to us about the little things about Mallorca, and indeed when you arrive on the island, you see those things, the Sports City, the stadium, the anecdotes that the fans tell you, and that emotional component, which exists, makes one feel at home”.

Regarding the future, Pol Lorente is clear: “My wish is to be here as long as possible and for RCD Mallorca to continue in the First Division”.
