Pogba ends his most terrible year and with his future in the air

Paul Pogba has had a horrible year 2021. At 28 years old, The Frenchman has gone from being a cornerstone of Manchester United, to hardly anyone missing him in the English team. He has finished the year injured since the end of October and with an uncertain future. Tcontract ends in June and enfant terrible French is not easy to accommodate.

The French midfielder has had a 2021 to forget. He lost the Europa League final to Villarreal; he was eliminated by Switzerland in the last European Championship and injuries have prevented him from continuing. Its performance has suffered. Only 5 goals in all of 2021 (one in the second round of the Euro against the Swiss team). A very poor background for a footballer of his quality. Let’s not forget that Manchester United paid a whopping € 105M in 2016 for his brilliant signing.

The only joy that Pogba has reached was the conquest of the Nations League with France, where he had two very good games against Belgium and Spain. The rest has been a performance disaster for a world-class player. In the current season he has not scored a goal and the fans of the red devils they don’t miss him. He has spent part of his rehabilitation away from England, in Dubai, disconnected from the future of the team. 800 minutes of play and only 13 red matches.

And now that?

The alarming thing for Pogba is that no one sees him as a star anymore. 2022 should be his year but he has to sit down with Mino Raiola, his agent, to decide his future. Ralf Rangnick questioned his continuity at United. “If a player does not want to play for a club like United there is no point in trying to convince him.” Xavi shelved a possible arrival at Barça. The return to Juventus will always remain, which always opens on the horizon of signing free players. And what about Real Madrid? The departure of his supporter Zidane and the signing of Camavinga have closed the door, as this newspaper reported. PSG or some other English team would be his lifeline. Only Deschamps, with France, still have him as the undisputed starter, but how long will that last if he doesn’t come out of the hole?

Pogba has gone from star to star. We will see if his fate changes in 2022 or the new year begins as 2021 ended, disappeared.
