Piqué: “Pedri has many options to be the best in the world”

Gerard Piqué (35 years old) was interviewed by Gary Neville for Sky Sports. A short questionnaire while walking through the sports city of Sant Joan Despí, where the central defender of FC Barcelona spoke with his ex-partner at Manchester United about all the issues that are current these days. He recognized that his first idol played for Real Madrid, he chose his best moment as a footballer, he spoke about the talents of his team and about Haaland and Mbappé.

Who is the funniest of your peers?

The funniest is Dani Alves. I think he’s 38 years old and he thought he was going to grow up with time but he’s still cracking jokes every minute.

-What was your role model as a child?

My first favorite player when I was very young was Fernando Hierro because I looked at players in my position. Then Rio Ferdinand, when I had the opportunity to play with him, and then Puyol or Gabi Milito, always in my position.

-What was your best moment?

When we won the World Cup it was the best moment.

-Which young player could be the best in the world?

Pedri has many options to be the best in the world. Gavi is also very, very good for his age. They have to grow, but we have great talent in Barcelona.

-¿Haaland o Mbappé?

Halaand and Mbappé are two of the best in the world. They are very young, they have the potential to win the Ballon d’Or. I think Haaland is more of a pure striker, he has scored many goals and Mbappé is a more complete player. He can play as a winger, he could play as a striker. They are both very good. I did not have the opportunity to play with Haaland, I played with Mbappé. Difficult to choose.

-Which stage of Cristiano do you stay with?

In Manchester, Cristiano played more as a winger, more focused on the show, he was more spectacular. At Madrid he started playing as a striker and he was a figure who scored many goals and was very important in winning the Champions League. It is difficult to choose, but perhaps the Cristiano of Madrid because he won more titles.

If you had to be someone else, who would it be?

I don’t want to be someone else. I am happy being who I am.
