The FC Barcelona footballer Gerard Piqué will be absent this Saturday at the Benito Villamarín for the LaLiga Santander match against Real Betis, and indefinitely, due to an “exacerbation” of his tendinopathy in the thigh of his left leg.
“The first team player Gerard Piqué has an exacerbation of the long adductor tendinopathy of the left thigh. It is low and its evolution will mark his availability,” the club announced in a statement.
Piqué, the fifth player in the history of the Blaugrana club with the most games played, will try to be able to play one of the four league games that remain to be played, but he will be out for sure this weekend against Betis and if there is not a quick recovery, he could not play again.
The center-back, as confirmed by his coach, Xavi Hernández, had been playing for weeks with discomfort and forcing. In the duel against Mallorca, he had to request the substitution in the first half when noticing the recurrence of a previous injury.
In fact, on matchdays 31 and 32 he was unable to play against Levante and Cádiz or the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals against Eintracht Frankfurt due to that adductor injury. Later, he played almost the entire game against Real Sociedad, rested against Rayo and broke against the Balearic Islands.
