At the end of the game, where the team of Xavi Hernandez beat Almería 2-0, the defender delivered his speech with microphone in hand: “First I want to thank you because if not I will forget. To my teammates, staff, doctors, physios, people from the gym, material, to those who They help us make it easier day by day. To the board for all these years…”.

“In life, when you get older, you realize that love is sometimes leaving,” he added. At that moment, Piqué burst into tears and had to take a few seconds to compose himself. Meanwhile, the stands cheered him to the cry of “President!”.

With a broken voice, he continued: “Of so much love and passion between Barcelona and me, I think it was time to leave us a space. A little air. And I am convinced that in the future I will be here again.” To finish, he wanted to emphasize that “this is not a farewell.” “I already left when I was 17 years old and I came back. Tell you that my grandfather made me a partner when I was born. I was born here and I will die here,” he concluded.

The award-winning player was at all times supported by his parents and his two children, Milan y Sashabut no trace of his girlfriend Clara Chia. The little ones wore the Blaugrana kit and accompanied their father to put his last touches on the pitch. With his teammates he also merged into big hugs.

Closing a stage

It has been a year to say the least intense for Piqué. His breakup with Shakira after 12 years of relationship and two children together put him on the front page of the world of heart. Above all, when the information came out that he had rebuilt his life with a young woman in her twenties: Clara Chía. To this is added that with the Colombian singer he cannot reach an agreement for the custody of his offspring that prevents them from going to trial.

For many his personal problems took their toll on the field and lately the footballer no longer played as many minutes as he wanted. From the stands he also received whistles and taunts.

But Piqué is smart and his “I’ll be back” is revealing. He has never hidden his intentions of presiding over the club of his life and it is most likely that now he will turn to that business facet that he is not bad at either. With his company Kosmos he has already made two fruitful investments: the FC Andorrawhich is already in the second division, and the renewed Davis cup of tennis.
